Unlike a spider plant which is easy to propagate, a snake plant takes patience. This plant in the picture was grown from a leaf that was cut and planted, I had to wait for it to start rooting ( roots showing from the bottom) Now you can see there are actually two daughters from this cutting that I can divide and plant. Just remember sometimes as bad as you want the plant to grow it just takes time. So enjoy the process and let’s get growing.
Sometimes if you like a plant the easiest way to get another one is to propagate it , above is a cutting I took off my spider plant. As the top picture shows I placed the cutting in a cup of water till it rooted , than I planted in soil . So if you have a plant you want more of , or you want to give it to someone try this . Have and let’s start growing.
I find one of the quickest ways to add color and excitement to a garden bed or border area is to add annuals to it . Annuals go through there cycle from seed to maturity in a year ( there are always exceptions to the rule ) I have been told because the growth period is one year they tend to need a lot of nutrients ( fertilizer) . I happen to be in the south right now where it is tropical , so my go to is Coleus and Marigolds you can get some rich colors out of both, and it’s hard to kill them so you get to enjoy looking at them for an extended period. As with all plants preparing the bed and proper watering we make or break how your annuals do , unless you don’t mind spending hours weeding around them, some people think it’s therapeutic, I find it frustrating cause you might stress plant area where they are at. Try to make sure you check info on plant for proper spacing so you don’t have to thin them out later when they are at a mature state . That all comes with practice I had a gardening teacher tell me once it’s not fun if your not getting your hands dirty , so that’s where I will leave it off at . Whether it’s annuals, biennials , or perennials , part of the fun is getting your hands dirty, Lets get growing . This is one of my borders below.
I have been told by more than a few people, right plant for right place . I will add right soil for the plant , soils have different textures ( Sand , Loam , clay ) always check your soil for ph balance , and texture it will save you a lot of headaches later on . The most important part of planting is to visualize the spot you want to put the plants and how much light you get in that area. Take some pictures at different times to see how much Sun you actually get . I hope we can learn together, let’s get growing . I find that plants not only have an effect on the place you put them but also on the person that’s planting them.
